W. HOUSE DINNER UNITES DRUG WAR VETS FROM BOTH SIDES
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Drug war veterans from both sides of the trenches
attended a White House state dinner Wednesday for Colombian President Andres
Pastrana, who vowed to win the battle against the country's infamous cocaine
lords.
U.S. anti-drug czar Gen. Barry McCaffrey was joined by outgoing Washington
mayor Marion Barry - who was jailed after a 1990 arrest for using crack
cocaine but who won election to a fourth term in 1994. Also on the guest
list were U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno and Rolling Stone magazine
founder Jann Wenner, an outspoken advocate of marijuana legalization and a
critic of the war on drugs.
