DEMOCRATS SEEK HEROIN TRIAL
ADELAIDE: The Australian Democrats in South Australia want the Federal
Government to begin a heroin prescription trial urgently, to reduce the
number of deaths from drug overdoses.
Democrats parliamentary leader Mike Elliott also suggested the regulated
availability of cannabis as part of a new approach to the fight against
illegal drugs. Mr Elliott said he was convinced the changes were necessary
after a tour of the Netherlands and Switzerland to study drug law reform.
"We have a major problem in South Australia where the Government's approach
is not working," he said.
