POT CASE DELAYED
Friday's scheduled opening of the drug-sales case against a medicinal-
marijuana activist Friday was put off until Monday, because one of the
jurors called in ill.
Defense attorneys contend that Marvin Chavez, through the Orange
County patient-doctor-nurse support group, had been attempting to
implement Prop. 215, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, by providing
medicinal marijuana to seriously or terminally ill patients.
Prosecutors say that he's actually involved in illicit drug
activities.
The hearing continues in Westminster in Div. 16, with Judge Thomas
Borris presiding.
