CHARGES LAID AFTER DRUGS FOUND IN JAIL
A "canteen kid" at the Toronto (Don) Jail was charged yesterday after about
3 grams of heroin and 50 grams of marijuana were found in an inmate's box of
soap.
The man is employed by a private company that supplies personal goods such
as soap to inmates.
The vending company takes orders from inmates, said Mark Kielty, president
of Local 582 at the Toronto East Detention Centre.
The firm's "canteen kids" usually sort and deliver the goods at the jail, he
said.
Richard Power, 23, is charged with trafficking, possession and possession
with the purpose of trafficking heroin and marijuana.
