MEDICAL MARIJUANA SUPPORTERS SUE OFFICIALS
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Medical marijuana supporters are suing the
Jacksonville Sheriff and the Duval County Supervisor of Elections in
federal court for allegedly forcing them to leave an area near a polling
place during the November elections.
Attorney Gary Edinger, who represents Floridians for Medical Rights, says
several members were not allowed to obtain petition signatures aimed at
putting on a statewide ballot a proposal that would allow the use of
marijuana for medical purposes.
Supervisor of Elections Tommie Bell agrees they should have been permitted
to gather signatures. No monetary damages are sought, but the group wants
better training for officers and poll workers.
