ORDINANCE TARGETS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA
DARIEN - A city ordinance prohibiting possession of drug
paraphernalia is expected to give police officers more leverage to
search for illegal drugs, particularly at Hinsdale South High School,
Clarendon Hills Road and 75th Street in Darien.
About two years ago, Hinsdale South liaison officer Michael Campo
noticed an increase in homemade drug paraphernalia--such as copper
pipes, corn cob pipes and emptied pens--used by youths at the school.
Campo asked the City Council to ban materials adapted for the
manufacturing or ingesting of illegal substances. Aldermen unanimously
approved the law recently.
The law allows cases involving possession of drug paraphernalia to be
heard at the Downers Grove field court.
