REEFER MADNESS
The hot debate surrounding the recreational use of marijuana always seems
to bring out the dementia in our society.
As a bud burnin' burg in a right-wing state, we in Boulder have been
subject to absurdity on both sides of the polemic.
Take the recent medical pot initiative, which faced staunch opposition from
conservative drug hawk prohibitionists more deluded than a geriatric
patient eight inches down on a Thai stick.
However, Colorado's medical marijuana proposal-which many legalization
activists saw as a lame compromise and too limited in scope to fully
protect medical users-was killed by its own champions, who apparently had
been too stoned to get enough valid signatures. (Maybe the petitions should
have read "Sign Here for Free Bone!").
