EX-NBA STAR DUMAS ARRESTED IN TULSA

Former NBA player Richard Dumas was arrested Thursday night at a Tulsa
motel and booked into jail on complaints of possession of a controlled drug
and drug paraphernalia.

Dumas, 29, whose basketball career has been plagued with drug troubles,
posted bail Friday and was released on his own recognizance.

Mark Anthony Vann, 31, was in the same room and also was arrested on drug
complaints.

Officer Lucky Lamons said an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for failure to
pay the fine for not wearing a seat belt led police to Dumas at the Ramada
Ltd., 7475 E. Admiral Place. A seat belt citation carries a fine of as much
as $20.

Lamons said police were investigating reported drug activity and determined
through motel records that Dumas was staying there and had an outstanding
warrant.

A police report indicates that officers went to Dumas' room and asked for
and obtained consent to enter. Upon entering, they saw a glass smoking pipe
with residue and a plastic bag containing numerous tan rocklike pieces, one
of which tested positive for cocaine.

Dumas was arrested and booked into the Tulsa Jail on $3,000 bail on the
outstanding warrant and the drug complaints.

After being read his Miranda rights, Dumas reportedly told police that he
bought the crack cocaine and intended to give it to a friend. Dumas could
not be reached for comment late Friday.

The star basketball player graduated from Washington High School and then
played just two years at Oklahoma State University before drug problems
ended his college career. He turned pro in Israel, and the Phoenix Suns
drafted him in 1991.

He made the team but failed a random drug test just before the 1991-92
season. Dumas missed that season and part of the next.

He played 48 games and started in 33 in 1992-93, averaging 15.8 points and
4.6 rebounds. He played in 23 playoff games.

But the Suns waived him after the 1995 season. Dumas joined the
Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent but spent most of the time on the bench,
even before a foot injury ended his season in 1996.
