HEROIN ADDICTS ARE ALREADY IN THE CITY
IVAN HOY (Letters, 16 December) says that heroin-injecting rooms will
bring addicts into Civic and that as a result he won't be setting foot
in the place. I think he misses the point that the addicts are already
there. The idea of injecting rooms is to shift drug use from the
public toilets and back alleys into an environment cleaner and safer
for everyone.
I recently found a bunch of used needles (within reach of my
three-year-old son) in the public toilets at Civic interchange. Had I
not seen the needles first, the consequences might have been disastrous.
