TON OF MARIJUANA FOUND IN TRACTOR-TRAILER
ST. CLAIR (AP) Two Texas men are jailed after more than a ton of marijuana
was found inside their tractor-trailer after it was stopped in eastern
Missouri.
The discovery was made after Missouri Highway Patrol officers pulled over
the tractor-trailer for a traffic violation in Franklin County, about 50
miles west of St. Louis. During a consensual search, officers found 30
burlap packages of processed marijuana, patrol Sgt. Hubert Looney said. The
bags weighed 2,513 pounds.
The drugs have an estimated street value of $3 million to $5 million,
Looney said.
Charged with drug trafficking were Francisco Villarreal and Daniel
Villarreal, both of Orange Grove, Texas. It was not immediately clear if
the men are related. They were being held in the Franklin County Jail on
$100,000 bond.
