TURKISH POLICE SEIZE 300 KG OF HEROIN

ISTANBUL, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Turkish police have seized 300 kg (660 lb) of
heroin and arrested six people they believe were involved in smuggling the
drug from southeastern Turkey into Europe, Anatolian news agency said on
Monday.

It said police acting on a tip found the heroin hidden on a long- distance
truck on its way to the western city of Istanbul. The agency did not say
when the raid took place.

Turkey is a major transit country for drugs being smuggled from Afghanistan
and Pakistan to markets in western Europe.
