Bravo to Larry Hirsch and all the plaintiffs in The Action Class for
Freedom from Government Prohibition of Therapeutic Cannabis ["Pot
Smokers vs. the U.S.," Nov. 12]. The federal government's prohibition
of marijuana is an artifact of greed and unjustified fear. It is
becoming apparent to a great majority of voters that it is time to
reconsider marijuana, and legal approaches like these are a wonderful
component of the gauntlet prohibitionists face in their struggle to
keep the public misinformed. Many California patients endured
persecution at the hands of conservative prosecutors even after
Proposition 215 was passed, thanks to federal intimidation. This
lawsuit is exactly what is needed to force the government to recognize
the therapeutic potential of marijuana.
