471 MARIJUANA PLANTS SEIZED BY POLICE IN RAID ON HOLLYWOOD HOME

A Broward Sheriff's Office drug raid on a quiet Hollywood home netted a
large crop of marijuana plants Wednesday.

Law enforcement officers entered the home at 5701 Douglas St. at 10:45 a.m.

Inside they found 471 marijuana seedlings and hundreds of seeds used to
grow dozens of varieties of the drug. The street value of the stash ranges
between $1,000 to $4,000 per plant, said Kirk J. Englehardt, a BSO spokesman.

Police said the home was the residence of Frank Bogolin, 40, who had two
prior arrests for cocaine possession in 1990 and 1992. Bogolin was arrested
Wednesday and is facing federal charges for cultivation of marijuana,
Englehardt said.

Investigators observed Bogolin's home for several months before raiding it.

In October, an anonymous caller told police that there was a suspicious
"lack of activity" at the residence.

BSO deputies worked with the Drug Enforcement Agency to investigate the tip
and watch the house. Drug-sniffing dogs helped to determine whether there
were narcotics inside.

At least one room in the home was filled with watering equipment and
special sun lamps to help the plants grow. The seedlings seized from the
high-tech nursery ranged between four to 12 inches high, police said.

Bogolin is in federal custody.
