'LSD GURU' GETS PRISON AFTER 20-YEAR FLIGHT
An LSD maker who eluded authorities for two decades was sentenced Friday in
San Francisco to five years in prison for jumping bail.
Nicholas Sand, dubbed an "LSD guru" by U.S. prosecutors, was convicted and
sentenced in 1974 to 15 years in prison for manufacturing and selling the
hallucinogenic drug, along with evading income taxes.
After Sand was freed on $50,000 bail pending appeal, he disappeared. He
resurfaced in September 1996, when he was one of seven people arrested by
the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Vancouver, British Columbia.
