SALVOS SHOULD BE ON DRUG PANEL

THE QUESTION of balance on the Minister for Health's panel for the 9
February community drug forum was brought into sharp relief upon
Canberrans learning that the prime mover in rehabilitation, the
Salvation Army, was excluded.

We have read in The Canberra Times in the past Mr Moore's criticism of
the drug approach by Major Brian Watters of the Salvos. Which brings
us to the question that if it is good enough for a Salvationist to be
the head of Australia's principal drug-advisory body why has Mr Moore
not invited a Salvos representative to be on the community forum panel?

And the community may ask what is Mr Moore's attitude to
rehabilitation to a drug-free status, in particular to Mr Stanhope's
publicly stated sensible preference for limited anti-drug funds to be
used to establish juvenile detoxification centres.

Mr Moore should immediately add another chair to the panel for the
people who have the expertise: the Salvation Army.
