ABC IS NO PUSHER OF ILLEGAL DRUGS

IT is pleasing that Members of Parliament make good use of ABC Online
(Daily Telegraph, January 26).

The What's Your Poison Website accompanied a Quantum television program
examining research into some common drugs. The site does not "promote or
condone illegal drugs" as claimed by Kay Elson, MP.

The ABC provides links to let our audience seek further information about a
program, news story or issue. The ABC uses editorial judgment to ensure
these links are relevant and appropriate for its different audiences. Where
necessary, it provides warnings of the nature of linked sites.

Regarding the What's Your Poison Website, the ABC does not directly link to
any site that gives information about how to make illegal drugs. Regarding
the Triple J Website, the ABC reviewed and removed its links to a personal
site with information about how to make a "potato gun".

Internet links create potential risk but responsible content providers can
manage it to ensure continuation, of a valued feature of the net.
