State debuts two methamphetamine videos

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 5 (UPI) - Law enforcement officials are presenting two
new educational videos they hope will educate the public about the growing
threat of methamphetamine in California. A spokeswoman for the state
Attorney General's Office says the majority of local law enforcement
resources are now being directed to curbing the proliferation of
methamphetamine labs. She also cited a University of California, Davis
study that showed five of six drug addicted mothers are addicted to
methamphetamine.

The 15-minute videos, which will be unveiled at a Los Angeles press
conference today, warn of the ancillary problems caused by methamphetamine,
including environmental pollution and explosions caused by the volatile
chemicals. The Attorney General says 188 meth labs were seized in Los
Angeles in 1996.
