CORRUPTION

Can We Trust Those Entrusted To Guard The Border?

Reports that one former and three current U.S. immigration officials
in Arizona have been charged with accepting bribes from drug dealers
to allow the smuggling of cocaine across the border are very alarming.
If we cannot trust those charged with guarding the border against such
criminal activity, who can we trust?

Money, it seems, is very persuasive to those who care little for their
oath or position. The officials allegedly received hundreds of
thousands of dollars to permit cocaine-laden trucks from Mexico into
the United States, the money coming from two Mexican drug syndicates.

Obviously, drug lords have found one effective use for their large
amounts of cash in corrupting law enforcement officers, judges and
government officials in both countries.

Some people cannot be bought. We would like to believe that most INS
officials, law officers and judges are included in that group.

But those found guilty of betraying their sworn duty, betraying their
colleagues and the American public should be punished to the fullest
extent of the law.
