TEEN ACCUSED OF FIZZLED NAPALM ATTACK

LEAGUE CITY, Texas, - A 15-year-old Texas boy is being
investigated for allegedly downloading directions on building a napalm
grenade from the Internet and using it against his father for making
him take a drug test.

The grenade failed to go off because it lacked a detonator, but police
also found a homemade shotgun and other weapons at the boy's home.

Sgt. Chris Reed says today the boy, who had a minor criminal record
before the incident, is in a psychiatric hospital being evaluated,
then will be returned to the Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center.

Reed says the boy ``was a good kid, he was one badge away from being
an Eagle Scout, and used to be a member of the ROTC.''

The boy had a large arsenal of homemade weapons at home, including
several other explosive devices.

Reed says, ``Half that stuff he made, he was lucky he didn't blow
himself up.

The boy also had made a homemade scythe and homemade
knife.

He faces a felony charge of possession of a prohibited weapon for
making the shotgun and misdemeanor assault for attacking his father
with a knife.

He faces no charges for the homemade napalm, since it was brewed up
from common household products.

Police recovered two computer discs with downloaded instructions on
making homemade weapons.

Reed says the boy apparently knew the napalm grenade would not explode
without a detonator.

Reed says, ``I think he doesn't realize what he could have done, he
was just trying to scare him, (and now) his parents are scared to
death of him.''
