SJC LIMITS POLICE AUTHORITY
BOSTON, Feb. 11 (UPI) - Police fighting the war on drugs were dealt a
setback yesterday by the state Supreme Court. The high court ruled that
officers must use search warrants only for the location they are issued for,
and may not use them to search other suspected areas. The case involved a
1996 drug raid on a Quincy apartment. The officers found no drugs in the
unit, but did find some later in the suspect's car, which was parked in a
visitor's space outside the building. The justices ruled that the second
search was illegal since it was not specified in the warrant.
