KBI REVIEWS DRUG SHOOTING BY POLICE
(OSAWATOMIE, Kansas) - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting a
routine review today of a weekend shooting in Miami County who was killed
when police tried to serve a search warrant on his residence.
The man was identified as 48-year-old Willie Heard of Osawatomie
(oh-sa-WAH-toe-me), which is about 60 miles southwest of Kansas City.
Authorities say Heard was shot around 1:30 Saturday morning after he
confronted officers with a rifle when they tried to execute a search
warrant for narcotics.
He was taken by helicopter to an Overland Park hospital where he was
pronounced dead. Investigators say Heard did not fire his rifle.
