ALL PROHIBITIONS ARE WRONG

It's interesting that letter writer Paul Holm-Andersen paradoxically
complains that (due to the "war on drugs" in the U.S.) marijuana is illegal
while the U.S. will not outlaw firearms (actually not true -- we have many
gun laws). But he is confused, like most people who want one inanimate
object legal and another illegal.

When will the political will be strong enough to legalize marijuana?

The answer is simple: When people like him realize that all prohibitions on
"things" are wrong, and when he demands that both marijuana and guns be
legal. As long as he gives government the power to ban one, he has given
them the power to ban them all. The only question is which one is illegal
right now. Drop the prohibitions, and simply prosecute violence, and you
will have found the libertarian middle -- the only rational answer.

Dan Litwin, San Diego, Calif.

(The words libertarian and middle don't mix)
