SINGAPORE HANGS TWO MEN, ONE WOMAN FOR MURDER
SINGAPORE, - Singapore hanged three people on Friday
for strangling and stabbing a woman to death, a police spokesman said.
"They were all guilty of murder," the spokesman said.
The three Singapore nationals, two men and one woman, committed the
murder in March 1997 over a personal issue, police said.
Friday's executions brought the number of people hanged in Singapore
this year to five.
Most of Singapore's executions are for drug trafficking. More than
half of the 300 people hanged since 1975 in the staunchly anti-drug
city-state were convicted drug traffickers.
Singapore's tough anti-drug laws include a mandatory death sentence
for anyone over the age of 18 found guilty of trafficking more than 15
grams (half an ounce) of heroin, 30 grams (an ounce) of morphine or
500 grams (18 ounces) of cannabis.
