GO ASK ALICE

THE FINAL ill-chosen phrase of Michele Mandel's Feb. 25 column, "Furor over
drug-fun leaflet," was possibly added at the behest of an over-zealous
editor who was petrified the article might be perceived as being "soft on
drugs."

Happily for your readers, the phrase is hilarious Alice-In-Wonderland
nonsense. Let's review how Mandel's column ended. Dr. Joyce Bernstein of
Toronto Public Health says, "I'd rather see a kid experiment (with a drug)
with this (a drug information leaflet) in their hands, than without it."
Mandel then triumphantly delivers the stinging riposte, the devastating
coup de grace, "Even if it means experimenting with their lives?" Huh?
