BOY BUSTED FOR POT

OSHAWA, Ont. -- An enterprising 11-year-old boy was detained after
prospective marijuana buyers were offered a free sample before buying joints
at $2 apiece.

The boy is too young to be charged.

The lad was hauled into the principal's office on Tuesday after education
officials received word a student had tried to sell pot on a school bus,
police said yesterday.

"Apparently three other children had been provided free marijuana joints and
were offered the chance to buy more for $2 each," said Sgt. Jim Grimley.

During a meeting with the principal and vice-principal, the boy turned over
six rolled joints and a plastic bag containing about 100g of green material,
which appeared to be marijuana, said police.

The boy's parents and police were summoned to the school. Police also
contacted Children's Aid officials.

"The child said he found three tins containing the items in the furnace room
of his family's basement," said Grimley, adding the boy's mother refused to
consent to a police search of her home.

Police initially detained the boy for possession of marijuana for the
purpose of trafficking but later released him unconditionally to his mother.

"It's extremely rare," said Grimley.

"He has got to be one of the youngest we've ever dealt with."
