FOUR SCHOOLS SEARCHED FOR DRUGS

You could say Project Hallwalk, a periodic check of Halton high
schools by police and drug-sniffing dogs, has been something of a bust
since it started late last year. Four schools have been searched so
far and police have laid no charges and have seized only a small
number of drugs, said Detective Sergeant Mike Eacrett. The program is
supported by both public and Catholic school boards and consists of an
officer walking a drug-detector dog along hallways at selected schools.

Eacrett said because schools are randomly chosen for the search, the
program has proved to be a deterrent to students who may be inclined
to bring drugs into high schools.

The four schools that have been searched are E. C. Drury and Milton
District secondary schools in Milton and General Brock and Aldershot
in Burlington. No drugs were found at Milton and General Brock. A
trace amount of marijuana was found at E. C. Drury and a trace amount
of hashish was discovered at Aldershot.
