RE "HIGH time for pot study" (March 8): It is indeed time for the
government to reconsider cannabis laws, but let's not forget that the
government's Le Dain Commission, which in 1972 recommended
decriminalization of cannabis, was promptly ignored by Parliament. We
should hope things will be different this time. It's ironic that the
drug itself harms users not so much as those who feel the need to
control what others choose to put into their own bodies, making
criminals out of innocent people, and preventing those who are
suffering from having access to the medicine that helps them. Cannabis
will only be decriminalized when people set aside biases and
propaganda, and look at the facts about the drug.
