COLD-PILL OVERDOSE HOSPITALIZES KIDS

Eight juveniles in a Woodridge drug-treatment program were treated Sunday
at area hospitals after they apparently overdosed on over-the-counter cold
capsules that they obtained while on a day field trip, Woodridge police said.

"They apparently thought they could get some kind of kick out of the
capsules," Woodridge Deputy Police Chief Carl Schnibben said.

Schnibben said it was not immediately clear whether the juveniles, who were
mainly teenagers, purchased or stole the capsules when they stopped at an
area store while taking a walk with a counselor.

One of juveniles took up to 16 capsules, and counselors were alerted to the
problem when some of the youths fell ill , Schnibben said.

Most of the juveniles in the program are there because of a court order,
Schnibben said.
