DOOLEY READS COMMUNITY WRONG
To the Editor
Open letter to Mayor John Dooley.
I start with a quote from a local newspaper I read.
"Nelson Mayor John Dooley said he supported the police action over
the weekend, noting he has heard complaints from city residents and
businesses about the operation."
As a Nelson resident, a successful business owner and home owner, you
will not be receiving my vote come election time.
I will cast my vote for someone who encourages and protects the
freedoms of Nelson's citizens and does not simply succumb to the
voices of those few residents and businesses who complained.
How does the Holy Smoke Culture Shop or those who enjoy smoking
marijuana unduly impose on their personal freedoms?
It is ignorance and arrogance which allows and encourages the
diminishments of one's personal freedoms.
Marijuana is pervasive throughout Nelson. Yet I believe, as many do,
that Nelson is one of the most idyllic places to live. Certainly we
are a good case study to show that the open use of marijuana does not
result in a degraded community.
I encourage other Nelson residents to voice their displeasure in your
lack of concern over individuals rights and freedoms.
