POLICE OFFICERS TO BE HONORED FOR DUI ARRESTS

SAN MATEO - Officers from the San Jose, Newark and Redwood City
police departments will be honored Thursday as ``Deuce Stars'' for
arresting the most DUI suspects in their respective counties during
the year-end campaigns against drinking drivers.

Sixty police agencies in Santa Clara, San Mateo and Alameda counties
participated in the holiday season crackdown, which resulted in 1,526
arrests. Alcohol-related crashes were at almost half of the previous
year's total.

Officer Michael Kihmm of the San Jose Police Department will be
recognized for making 19 DUI arrests. Redwood City police officer Brad
Johnson had 15 arrests, and Todd Young of the Newark Police Department
made 12 arrests.

The three will receive plaques and uniform pins. An additional 133
officers from the Peninsula, Santa Clara Valley and East Bay will
receive uniform pins for making four or more arrests.
