STIFF SENTENCING NEEDED

WHEN I read that a Modesto man was sentenced to eight years for
kidnapping and rape (Page 1A, March 23), I found myself lamenting a
justice system that gave him such a lenient sentence. Just how does
one accumulate a ``long record of violence and sexual crimes''?
They're given light sentences and early parole.

Hopefully our new attorney general and governor will take crimes
against women more seriously than did those elected before them.
Regardless of whether this man is connected to the disappearance of
the women in Yosemite, he should have been given a much stiffer
sentence for kidnapping two children and raping their mother.
