CUBA COCAINE RAP 'A SET UP'

Canucks cry foul

PETERBOROUGH -- A Canadian woman in jail in Cuba on drug charges says
she was set up.

Beverly Powers, 36, of Burk's Falls, is one of six Canadians arrested
Nov. 8 at a Cuban airport after police allegedly found cocaine in
their suitcases.

Powers, her boyfriend, Bob Caissey and his brother, Charlie Caissey,
all of Burk's Falls, are in prison in Havana awaiting trial on charges
of possessing cocaine.

It's not clear who the other three are.

In a letter sent to her twin sister in North Bay, Powers, who spent
two weeks in Jamaica before flying to Cuba for a visit, says she was
set up.

"I didn't know anything about the drugs at all until they arrested me
and told me about it," Powers wrote.

Brenda Powers says she didn't receive the letter, written in December,
until February.

The six are charged with possession of up to 40 kilos of cocaine and
face imprisonment.
