TEACHER GUILTY OF SELLING DRUGS
MINEOLA, N.Y., - Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon
says a New York City junior high school teacher has admitted selling
drugs to an undercover detective assigned to the DA's squad.
Dillon says Edgar Grant, 52, of 61 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn,
pleaded guilty today to one count of criminal sale of a controlled
substance in the third degree.
It was alleged that on three separate occasions, Grant sold cocaine
for between $400 and $500. The sales took place at the Mineola
railroad station and across from the Belmont Racetrack in Elmont.
Grant was a social studies teacher at PS-99 in Manhattan and worked
for the New York City Board of Education since 1973.
He was arrested last September after the third sale of cocaine took
place.
Dillon says some of the sales were videotaped by police.
Grant is expected to receive a sentence of one and one-half to four
and one-half years in prison. In addition, Grant has agreed to resign
as a school teacher in New York City.
