RESOLUTION ON DRUGS

Manilla Shire Council will be a signatory to the Australian Cities Against
Drugs Limited launch.

The programme will be launched at a dinner function scheduled for April 14
in Tamworth.

Clr Paul McManus, Mayor of Manilla will sign the Australian Cities Against
Drugs resolution.

This resolution intends to promote cooperation between Local Government
authorities in rejectIng all demands for the legalising of illicit drugs.

The ACAD resolution declares:

* We the signatories to this resolution, reject all demands for legalising
Illicit drugs;

* We wish to deveolp positive strategies in order to address the current
difficult problems related to abuse, rather than legalising drugs;

* We wish to develop positive strategies between cities and towns within
Australia and overseas in order to share experiences and progress our work,

* Request the Governments of Australia to instigate a public education
programme on the true harmful effects of illicit drugs;

* We draw attention of our Governments to the above resolutions;

* We request that our Governments respect and with determination, apply
these conventions and agreements regarding drugs which we have signed.

The launch dinner at the West Tamworth Leagues Club will be chaired by Mr
Normie Rowe.

Special guests will include Mr Craig Thompson, Magistrate Bankstown Court
and a member of the National Drug Council of Australia; Mr Ross Goodridge, a
Barrister, responsible for introduction of 'drug courts' in Australia; The
Hon. Athol Mofitt CMG QC, retired President Court of Appeal, former Royal
Commissioner into organised crime; Professor Siva Navaratnam, Medical
Director Rapid Detox Centre Sydney.

An invitation has also been extended to Mrs Kerry Chikarovsky, MP.
