DARE'S 'RACE AGAINST DRUGS' SET AT KMART

ARROYO GRANDE - Kids Race Against Drugs was inaugurated through the Kmart
Family Foundation, an organization created to fight drug abuse among the
nation's youth. The program will provide a national umbrella for DARE in
1999 which will fund development of DARE's educational programs as well as
offering assistance to the programs of local police agencies.

The Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs will be visiting the Arroyo Grande Kmart
at 1570 W. Branch St. on Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again
on Sunday, April 11, from noon until 6 p.m.

The Kmart Kids Race Against Drugs allows children ages 7-12 to do something
that is both fun and good for the community. After completing a short
orientation program, children are given the opportunity to negotiate a
safety modified electric cart on a close driving course.

It's fun, it's free, and the children get to test their skills as they race
against the clock for best elapsed time. It's good for the community because
every time a child crosses the finish line, the Kmart Family Foundation will
donate $5 to the DARE program of of the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
