UCONN STAR EL-AMIN TO PERFORM SIX HOURS COMMUNITY SERVICE AFTER DRUG BUST
(Hartford, Connecticut) Khalid El-Amin (Kah'-lid El Uh-meen'), the former
Minneapolis North High School basketball star arrested in Connecticut on a
misdemanor drug charge, was sentenced to six hours of community service. A
Hartford community court judge also ordered El-Amin to speak to students at
three area middle schools explaining how this experience affected his life.
A court official said El-Amin had a brief hearing this morning (Thursday),
and will perform his community service in Hartford April 21. El-Amin was
arrested Tuesday in Hartford after police found him in possession of a
small amount of marijuana. The arrest came a day after his old high school
retired his jersey number. Minneapolis mayor Sharon Sayles Belton also
declared Monday ``Khalid El-Amin day'' in the city.
