89-YEAR-OLD MAN SENTENCED FOR SELLING CRACK
KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) -- An 89-year-old man convicted of selling crack
cocaine has been sentenced to up to four years in state prison.
Authorities said Brose Gearhart, who turns 90 today, ran a
$1,000-a-week crack sales operation from his Saugerties home and
routinely traded drugs for sex with prostitutes.
"I got nothing to say, I guess," Gearhart told the judge at sentencing
Monday.
"Notwithstanding his age, we have to send a message," prosecutor
Michael Miranda said.
