D U S H A N B E -- Tajik customs officers on Saturday found 11
kilograms of pure heroine while searching a Dushanbe-Moscow passenger
train. Deputy chairman of the Tajik Customs Committee Makhmud Kasymov
told Itar-Tass that the train and baggage was searched at the railway
station Regar on the Uzbek border. A drug cache was found in the
dining carriage. Four of its workers were detained. It will have to
established during the investigation whether they have any relation
to the drugs. Kasymov stressed that this is the largest batch of the
so-called hard drugs to have seized by customs officers.
D U S H A N B E -- Tajik border guards have thwarted an attempt to
smuggle eight kilograms of raw opium from Afghanistan to Tajikistan in
the last 24 hours. The press service of the Tajik Border Guard
Committee told Itar-Tass on Saturday that border guards detected a
group of armed people last night, who were crossing the river Pyandzh
from Afghanistan. A shootout ensued. Having seen that the border
guards were getting a reinforcement, the drug traffickers retreated
back to Afghanistan under the cover of the night. Drugs, a submachine-
gun and a clip to it were found at the scene of incident.
