LISTEN TO THE VOTERS

Solano County Supervisor John Silva summed up why law enforcement
officers should not be making decisions about medical cannabis or any
health policy for that matter "Medicinal marijuana group asks for
county's support," Aug. 14). It's because they aren't health
professionals and can't see beyond drug law enforcement, regardless of
the fact that we have a voter-approved medical marijuana law in California.

If Supervisor Silva can't separate himself from his former career, why
did he become a county supervisor? Supervisor Silva is supposed to be
representing the interests and concerns of his constituents. By
admitting he can't support our state medical marijuana laws because of
his former career as a cop, he is essentially saying he can't fulfill
his current job as a county supervisor.

And what does a prior career in law enforcement have to do with CA
Health & Safety Code 11362.7? This voter-approved law mandates that
counties issue cards to legal medical cannabis patients. Supervisor
Silva can't agree to issue cards because he used to be a cop? It's not
like patients are asking Supervisor Silva to provide the marijuana
himself.
