LARGE CONSIGNMENT OF NARCOTICS CONFISCATED IN UZBEKISTAN.

TASHKENT, May 4 (Itar-Tass) - Some 500 kilograms of narcotics,
including two kilograms of pure heroin, have been confiscated by
customs officers of Uzbekistan, Major General Utkur Kamilov, head of
the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, told Tass on Tuesday.
According to General Kamilov, this is the largest consignment of
narcotics, confiscated by Uzbek customs officers since the beginning
of the year. Its value on the "black market" is several million dollars.

"This happened on Monday night at the Uzun customs post in the
Surkhandarya Region, the southernmost region of the republic which
borders on Tajikistan. The cargo -- two kilograms of heroin, 13
kilograms of hashish and 457 kilograms of opium -- was found on a
freight train going from Tajikistan to Russia via Uzbekistan,"
General Kamilov said.
