POLICE SEIZE 1,500 KG OF MARIJUANA IN CHELYABINSK AREA

CHELYABINSK, - A record-large shipment of marijuana
has been seized by Chelyabinsk Region law enforcement agencies. A
Kamaz truck with 1.5 tonnes of dried marijuana was detained at a
customs post in Kartaly District. According to the official papers,
the truck was carrying onions. Almost 100 bags of the narcotic were
hidden amid the onions, a transport police source told Itar-Tass on
Thursday.

The drug shipment was intended for people in central Russia. Three
residents of Kyrgyzstan, who were accompanying the shipment, were
detained as well.

The South Urals transport police department operatives promptly
established the identity of a recipient of the shipment -- a
50-year-old unemployed resident of Kyrgyzstan -- and arrested him.
