SHOOTING GALLERIES THE WRONG WAY TO GO
IN The Canberra Times (May 10), I see on one page a report of a nearly 100
per cent successful heroin detoxification treatment and on another a call
for heroin-shooting galleries in Canberra.
Patricia Varga implies that free heroin and shooting galleries will make
addicts reliable, law-abiding family members.
Pardon my disbelief!
Excuse me for stating the obvious, but isn't it better to get addicts
safely off heroin rather than to make it easier for them to continue?
One Nation will be contesting the next ACT elections, and Canberrans may
rest assured that we will not be supporting free heroin and shooting
galleries.
We will be pushing for severe penalties for drug dealers, compulsory
detoxification for addicts, and an education campaign to warn of the dangers.
