DEALIN' WILLIE WANTS YOUR WHEELS

Willie Brown is getting weird on us. I'm not talking about micro-management
like issuing orders to branch librarians about preschool reading programs.

I say promote the 11-year-old boy who wants to read to little kids for a
half-hour a week in the library. I don't know if he's the Reading Wizard, as
he claims, but he's the Wizard of Spin.

How'd he like to be mayor?

No, micro-managing and issuing edicts are not weird for Brown. What's weird
is all the stuff he's trying to take away from people, from shopping carts
to cars. He's willing to take any kind of vehicle from the despised of the
Earth, as long as it's a vehicle for his re-election.

Brown is going to be re-elected as mayor anyway, but he's still running
scared. He may not prove as popular with voters as he is with himself.

Sometimes it's hell having an ego as big as the Ritz. Especially when most
voters want to check out.

So now we have government by confiscation - and not just confiscating tax
money to pour into City Hall sinkholes.

It looks like he'll never get those shopping carts out of the clutches of
the homeless, so now he has another election-eve ploy. He wants to take cars
from people arrested for allegedly soliciting prostitutes or buying drugs.

The mayor sees a threat to The City from degenerate out-of-towners in BMWs.
As if there aren't enough degenerate San Franciscans, in BMWs or otherwise.
But now we have to talk about outside agitators for degenerateness.

Great city forced to import degenerates.

I wonder how many official city cars will be seized. If such a law existed a
few years ago, a few high elected officials I won't name would have been
doing a lot of walking.

So here we have this allegedly liberal city that's going fascist on us, and
worse, getting its ideas from Oakland. The City is going to seize and hold
people's property before they've been convicted of anything.

I had to check the World Almanac to see if the Constitution had changed.

No, it's still there in the Fifth Amendment, the thing about how no person
shall be "deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."

But heck, by the time the courts sort it out, the election will be over.
