15 DRUG GANGSTERS CHARGED

MIAMI -- A drug gang nicknamed the Boobie Boys may have killed 35 people and
shot dozens more in an eight-year span of murder and mayhem resulting from
narcotics turf wars in Miami's mean streets, police and U.S. agents said Friday.

In a federal indictment unsealed Friday, 15 members of the Boobie Boys were
charged in a drug conspiracy that spurred vicious battles for eight years
beginning in 1990.

The gang imported and distributed nearly 5 tons of cocaine valued at $89
million across 13 states.

Eleven of the 15 members charged, including a suspended Miami-Dade police
detective, were in custody, but the gang's leader, Kenneth "Boobie"
Williams, 28, was a fugitive. He is one of the most-wanted U.S. criminals.
There are rewards totaling $56,000.

Six of the gang members were charged in connection with two drive-by
shootings in which five people died. All of the defendants face life prison
terms, police said.
