A 'BONG' SHOW
Editor:
Re: "Police, Township ask for end to bong sales," Star article, Aug.
10. As a federal medical marijuana license holder who is also married
to one, I was compelled to comment on this paraphernalia bylaw story.
I agree that marijuana-using paraphernalia should be out of sight and
out of the reach of anyone under 18 or 19. But I also think that
tobacco and alcohol products should be out of sight, too. How can our
society allow vodka advertisements on billboards at the side of the
highway, and beer advertisements on Hockey Night In Canada, but won't
allow people to sell bongs? It is hypocritical and absurd.
By the way, any marijuana smoking apparatus or appliance would
probably be considered a medical assistance device. People who use pot
for medicine are entitled to access of that equipment. They have to
buy it somewhere, so prohibiting the sale in an area might violate the
Charter rights of any medical marijuana users in that area.
Oh, that pesky Charter!
