BUSH SIGNS THREE BILLS INTO LAW
MIAMI, May 21 (UPI) - Gov. Jeb Bush was in Miami today, where he signed
three bills into law before a crowd of some 20,000 public school students
attending an anti-drug rally in the Orange Bowl.
Two of the new laws relate to anti-drug efforts on the part of the state.
One creates a Drug Control Policy Office under the governor to be headed by
Florida's new so-called "drug czar," who will coordinate drug-fighting
efforts across the state.
The governor also signed legislation that provides stiffer penalties for the
sale and possession of a designer drug known on the street as "Special K."
Finally, he signed the so-called "3 Strikes and You're Out" bill that
sitffens penalties for those convicted of vioient offenses.
