REPORT: STRAWBERRY TO MAKE PLEA BARGAIN

Darryl Strawberry will plead no contest to a felony cocaine charge and
misdemeanor solicitation count in a deal that will spare him a
criminal record, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

Strawberry is due in court Wednesday to be arraigned for his April 14
arrest in Tampa where he allegedly propositioned an undercover
policewoman. After the arrest, 0.3 grams of cocaine wrapped in a $20
bill were found in his wallet.

The report said that in exchange for the plea, the court will
"withhold adjudication," which means there will be no criminal record.
As part of the agreement, Strawberry will remain in a drug treatment
program, perform community service and be placed on probation.

He faced a maximum five-year prison sentence on the drug charge and up
to 60 days in jail on the solicitation charge.

Mets outfielder Rickey Henderson, out since May 7 because of a
sprained right knee, was activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Former A's pitcher Todd Van Poppel remained unbeaten in Triple-A
outings this season, leading Nashville to a 5-2 win over Albuquerque
in a Pacific Coast League game. Van Poppel (3-0) gave up four hits
in five innings.
