PARENTS, SON FACE CHARGES FOR MARIJUANA

STILLWATER -- A Stillwater couple and their teen-age son are facing drug
charges stemming from a high school administrator's report to police that
two students came back from the lunch hour smelling like marijuana.

``Both students said they had been at the residence of Joel Shewey during
the lunch hour. Both students said they did not smoke marijuana but the
house was `full of smoke,' '' a police affidavit said.

A search by police turned up ``small packaged amounts of marijuana
throughout the residence,'' prosecutor Jack Bowyer said Tuesday. He said
that ``in excess of 1 ounce of marijuana was scattered'' at various
locations in the house.

Joel Thomas Shewey, 19, previously attended Stillwater High School, but was
not a student at the time of the alleged incident on Feb. 12, Bowyer said.
He was working as a laborer at a printing company, according to jail
records.

He and his father, Ronald Edward Shewey, 44, who is self-employed, are
scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on a three-count charge. The
teen-ager's mother, Francis Louise Shewey, 43, who works as a laboratory
technician, appeared in court Tuesday and is due to return to court June 14.
They are all free on $1,500 bail.

All three members of the family are charged with felony possession of
marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana in the presence
of a child under 12 (the Shewey's 11-year-old daughter), and possession of
drug paraphernalia.

An affidavit by Stillwater Police Detective Keith Colasacco said that when
police went to the Shewey home on Feb. 12, Joel Shewey told them that he and
an unidentified female friend ``had been smoking marijuana in the house
during the lunch hour.''
