QUESTIONS ABOUT DARE

For years, studies have shown that the DARE program is often more expensive
yet less effective than many other anti-drug programs, especially for middle
and high school kids.

Yet so powerful is DARE's public image and political clout, that few ever
dare to question DARE.

Except for Atascadero School Superintendent Dan Dodds, who has recommended
dropping the program. Is it possible that his decision might prompt other
school districts to do a cost/benefit analysis to compare DARE with other
programs, and then start asking the kinds of serious questions they should
have been asking all along?
