RECREATIONAL CHOICES DUE RESPECT

In a letter, Ariel Freedman suggests folks attending the University of
Connecticut should "feel especially ashamed and betrayed" by Huskies
basketball player Khalid El-Amin's recent marijuana arrest.

To the contrary! As a UConn graduate and Connecticut resident, I can
only say I am ashamed at the laws allowing for the arrest and
prosecution of peaceful persons for their enjoyment of a natural plant
less harmful than tobacco, alcohol, or Viagra.

Persons spreading irrational disdain for - and encouraging the
imprisonment of - other persons whose recreations differ from their
own are by far the worst effect of the entire case.
